Funny, Daddy now available on YouTube

So a while ago, I recorded my solo show Funny, Daddy and offered it for sale, with partial proceeds going to Children's Wish Foundation. Some of you paid for the download. Thanks!
If you paid for it, but haven't watched it, I want to let you know that the Box.net link I sent will no longer be available (monthly fees for box.net are higher than gross all-time sales for this video, so being a math genius, I realized that wasn't worth it). instead, the video is now on Youtube. Which means that if you didn't buy it, you can still watch it. (if you paid for it, and it now being freely available is a problem, send me a message and I'll refund your money).
Actually, rather than free, I'm considering it "Pay What You Want" (PWYW). If you watch it, feel free to pay whatever you think it was worth using the PayPal link in the video description on YouTube. If you would prefer to watch for free, that's cool, too.
I won't hound you about this, I promise. i might send out a reminder or two, but I won't be as much of as pest as many of you have told me I was in the past. Promise.

Does This Taste Funny?

After having a lot of fun touring around Canada's Maritime provinces with my solo show Funny, Daddy in 2013 with great media and audience reviews, I'm getting ready for a fall 2014 tour of my new 1-hour solo show Does This Taste Funny?

Prepping for my specialty: Entertained Squab.

My new show will be an hour of food-related jokes and stories. It's the tale of why, despite graduating from a great culinary school and working in amazing kitchens in Canada and Europe, I'm not a chef today. Mixed in with the food jokes will be funny stories from behind-the-scenes of the restaurant biz!

I'm working out the details and dates and of course the script now, and I want to make sure this tour is as well-organized as possible. In order to ensure that, there are a ton of up-front expenses (booking venues, advertising etc). So, after talking to a few people who have used crowdfunding websites like IndieGogo to help pre-fund their tours and/or shows, I have decided to launch an IndieGogo campaign of my own.

I'm hoping to find a bunch of people who would like to help me get this tour off on the right foot by contributing to my IndieGogo campaign. You can find my campaign by clicking here.

In exchange for your contribution, you will receive some cool perks. You can receive one of my favourite recipes monthly for the rest of the year, or if you play your cards right, I'll come to your house and cook you dinner for 4 before a show! Check these out:

*All contributions of $25 or more will be added to the Lloyd's Llunch Counter Recipe of the Month Club. You will receive 1 of my favourite recipes by email monthly throughout 2014, with details like where I got the idea & how I made it my own. With each recipe I will include 1 of the food-related jokes or stories I'm working on for Does This Taste Funny?

$2 (Contributor level: Cook) - Each $2 sponsor will receive a digital download of Does This Taste Funny?
All sponsor levels will be thanked in the show program.

Help Me Help Children's Hospitals in Canada

This is one of my all-time favourite pictures.

Eric was on a weekend pass from a particularly long hospital stay, after his second and third strokes, back-to-back. He and I were so relieved to be home that we were asleep on the couch in minutes.

Those were very difficult and terrifying days, watching Eric go through severe medical emergencies at such a young age. But thanks to extremely hard work of pediatric doctors and nurses and therapists (we stopped counting when Eric had been seen by more than 100 doctors from several different specialties by age 4), Eric's health has been pretty stable for the past few years.

That's why I decided to donate a portion of each sale from downloads of my 1-hour solo show Funny, Daddy to Children's Miracle Network, helping children's hospitals across Canada, as my way of saying "thank you for saving this kid's life".

The show itself is the story of the ups and downs of my time as a parent, and Eric's hospital stays and the wonderful care that we received during those stays, play a big role in the story. I do find an opportunity to roast the medical community a little, too (in a loving way, of course).

I appreciate the support I've had on this so far, and I would love it if a great big pile of my friends and family jumped on board today with a $5 purchase. I know literally hundreds of you have sent me messages saying "I wish I could see that show" when it was touring around the Maritimes. Well, now's your chance.

It's easy. You can pay with a credit card or PayPal athttp://bayoffunny.com/index.php/funny-daddy-dvd

Or, you can send an interac e-mail transfer to NoLloydering@gmail.com.

You'll receive a download link in your email shortly after paying.

Thanks!

Llove,

Lloyd

Funny, Daddy coming to PEI

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Comedian’s Solo Show Hitting 3 PEI Towns in Support of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation

Bay of Funny Comedy Presents New Brunswick Comic Lloyd Ravn’s show Funny, Daddy in Charlottetown, North Rustico and Souris

July 9, 2013 – Charlottetown

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation will receive a portion of the proceeds from three PEI presentations of a solo comedy show with an unlikely beginning. Sussex, NB-based stand-up comedian Lloyd Ravn will bring his Funny, Daddy show to Charlottetown (August 7 at The Guild), North Rustico (August 9 at the Watermark Theatre) and Souris (August 10 at the Souris Show Hall) after performing it in a number of other Maritime communities to rave reviews from audience members. The show, which is a combination of Lloyd’s stand-up material honed over the past 7 years and some more serious stories from Ravn’s time as a father, came about after the comedian lost his “day job” in October 2012.

“I had a great job with a high-profile tech company in New Brunswick,” says Ravn, “but after I got caught up in a mass layoff, I had to re-evaluate my direction, so I decided to make my part-time job of stand-up comedy my full-time gig.” He began working on Funny, Daddy almost immediately, and premiered the show to a sold-out crowd of 450 at the Sussex High School theatre.

Lloyd is the father of three boys, aged 8, 5 and 2, and is fully aware of the ups and downs of parenting.  From dealing with serious health issues to the usual stressors of raising kids, Lloyd relies on humour to get him through, and will talk during Funny, Daddy about how laughter during challenging times has helped him.

The adults-only show will run approximately 1 hour, 15 minutes, starting at 8 PM each night, and will include bits from Lloyd’s stand-up act as well as more serious stories from the ups and downs of Lloyd’s time as a parent including a discussion of the death of his father shortly after the birth of his oldest child, followed shortly after by the discovery of serious health issues with Ravn’s son. One of the more dramatic points of the story comes when Ravn tells of his son’s time as an inpatient at the QEH during a family vacation in PEI in 2008.

All of the stories lead back to Lloyd’s belief in the importance of being silly even during one’s darkest moments. Ravn’s message to ticket buyers is, “you’ll (certainly) laugh, you (might even) cry, you’ll (at the very least) have a night out without the kids.”

This show is part of an ongoing tour of the Maritimes for Funny, Daddy, incluing upcoming shows at the Atlantic Fringe Festival in Halifax and the Fundy Fringe Festival in Saint John with more dates being announced soon. Tickets range from $12 to $15 and ticket information is available atwww.BayOfFunny.com. A portion of proceeds from all three shows will be donated to the QEH Foundation as a thank-you from the Ravn family for the care they received while staying in their paediatric unit in July 2008. Donations to the QEH Foundation will also be accepted on the night of each performance.

Show Summary:
August 7, 2013 at The Guild, Charlottetown. 8 PM Tickets $15 at www.TheGuildPEI..com or at The Guild Box Office, 111 Queen St, Charlottetown

The adults-only show will run approximately 1 hour, 15 minutes and will include bits from Lloyd’s stand-up act as well as more serious stories from the ups and downs of Lloyd’s time as a parent including a discussion of the death of his father shortly after the birth of his oldest child. As ticket buyers are told on BayOfFunny.com, “you’ll (hopefully) laugh, you (might even) cry, you’ll (at the very least) have a night out without the kids.”

This show is part of an ongoing tour of the Maritimes for Funny, Daddy, incluing upcoming shows in Bathurst, Campbellton, St. Andrew’s, Charlottetown, Halifax and more dates being announced soon.\

Tickets are $12 in advance at www.BayOfFunny.com or at Saltwater Sounds, or directly from Lloyd at 506-434-3186 or NoLloydering@gmail.com.

Stand-Up Comedy Returns to the Saint John Theatre Company August 18

Stand-Up Comedy at Shakey's Comedy Club in Saint John Returns August 18
August 10, 2012Saint JohnNB –  The Saint John Theatre Company (SJTC) is welcoming stand-up back to its Princess Street location on August 18 with the Return of Stand-Up Comedy at Shakey's Comedy Club, presented by the Bay of Funny Comedy Circuit. The SJTC fundraiser will star London, England's James Mullinger (star of the UK's hit movie review program "Movie Kingdom") featuring two of New Brunswick's top comics, Shane Ogden (winner of the Funniest Person in NB contest) and Neal Mundle (winner of the Hubcap Comedy Festival contest, 2012) and will be hosted by Sussex-based comic and founder of the Bay of Funny Comedy Circuit, Lloyd Ravn (Top 10 Finalist in Sirius XM's Canada's Next Top Comic, 2011).

Stand Up Comedy at the Saint John Theatre Company
Comedy at Saint John Theatre Company
SJTC first welcomed stand-up comedy to their BMO Rehearsal Hall last year when long-time volunteer and VP of SJTC's Board of Directors, Kizzy Kaye, organized a fundraiser to commemorate the 50th birthday of her late husband, local comedian Jamie Williams. The show, for which the rehearsal hall was transformed into a New York-style comedy club (names "Shakey's Comedy Club", after one of Williams' most well-known characters), was a huge success for the theatre company, raising more than $4000 for their productions and to continue to update their space.

Making a guest appearance on last year's show was James Mullinger, one of the top up-and-coming comics in the UK, who called Shakey's "one of the loveliest venues I've ever performed in." This year, the comic, of whom the London Guardian enthused "the exuberant quality of his stand up makes him one to watch" will headline the show, along with returning MC, Ravn and NB favourites Mundle of Moncton and Ogden from the Saint John area.

The Theatre Company hopes to make this year's performance another solid fundraising evening for their company, to help buy much-needed equipment and to fund their ongoing productions of live-theatre featuring some of the best local and regional talent.

PERFORMER BACKGROUNDER

James Mullinger began his stand up career in 2005 and quickly made a name for himself as one of the best new comedians on the circuit reaching the finals of three major national comedy competitions including Jimmy Carr's Comedy Idol which resulted in a performance alongside Carr at The Comedy Store that appeared on Carr's DVD 'Stand Up'. Since then he has performed at the prestigious Just For Laughs festival in Montreal twice and has written about comedy for GQ, Men's Health, Manzine and Radio Times including interviewing his hero Jerry Seinfeld for the December 2009 issue of GQ.

He toured the show at festivals all over the UK, released a critically acclaimed DVD and culminated it with two sold out performances at the Soho Theatre, which was the Critic's Pick Of The Week in The Sunday Times Culture.

His second full length show James Mullinger's Schooldays sold out every night at the Camden Fringe in August 2010, the Leicester Comedy Festival in February 2011 and is now touring.

James continues to play clubs all over the country as well as in AmericaCanada and Australia
